DENTAL CROWNS
When you have damaged teeth, it’s a real pain. With broken, cracked, or chipped teeth, you may have difficulties eating and chewing, and you may feel self-conscious about your smile.
Dental crowns are a dentistry treatment that restores damaged teeth. With a dental crown, your tooth will be stronger and healthier. You’ll also have a natural-looking tooth that matches the rest of your smile.
Our CEREC System
At Homer Dental Center, Dr. Anne Adamson offers same-day dental crowns with the CEREC system. We are the only dental office in the area that provides this convenient treatment. If you want a high-quality crown quickly, reach out to our office.

What Are Dental Crowns?
Dental crowns are tooth-shaped caps that go over a damaged tooth. So, if your tooth has cracks, chips, or other problems, the dental crown will fit over the broken tooth snugly. Dr. Adamson uses tooth-colored material, such as ceramic, to create the dental crown.
The dental crown process involves reshaping the damaged tooth and then permanently attaching the dental crown. Once applied, the dental crown isn’t removable. Dental crowns are durable and made of strong material that lasts for years.
This video talks more about traditional dental crowns, but CEREC crowns are similar, just a bit faster.
How Dental Crowns Improve Your Smile
We need our teeth to eat properly and to feel confident in our smiles, so when one is damaged it can take a toll on your day-to-day life. In order to continue to protect your teeth and overall well-being, it is important to repair damaged teeth. At our office, dental crowns are utilized to:
- Restore dental implants
- Prevent a cracked tooth from becoming worse
- Protect an existing filling in jeopardy of becoming loose or dislocated
Sometimes we place dental crowns over a tooth that has been filled due to a root canal.
Looking for an improved appearance for your smile? When placed over discolored or stained teeth needing restoration, dental crowns provide the appearance of natural teeth.
Dental Crown Aftercare
Once your dental crown is in place, it is important to maintain proper care of your teeth. While a crown has restored a tooth, it doesn’t mean the tooth is indestructible.
With proper care, a good quality crown can last up to 8 or more years. Remember to brush and floss the area of the crown daily to avoid excess plaque buildup or collection of debris around the restoration.
It is also important to pay attention to other behaviors that might damage the dental crown. These behaviors often include jaw clenching or bruxism (teeth grinding). Try to avoid eating brittle foods, ice, or hard candy. If you are rough on your crown the adhesion of the crown can be compromised or damaged.

CEREC Crowns in Homer, AK
During your dental visit, your doctor may recommend using CEREC technology to complete dental work in one visit. For dental crowns, your tooth will be prepared as normal for your dental crown, but instead of a temporary crown being placed, the CEREC technology will allow a permanent crown to be completed and placed on the same visit!
Dr. Adamson offers CEREC crowns and bridges, so you can restore your smile in just one visit.
How CEREC Works
Thanks to advances in dental technology, dental prostheses can be completed in a single visit using CAD/CAM technology known as CEREC. CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. This in-house mill can be used to simplify dental procedures like dental crowns, dental implants, and dental bridges.
We will take a digital impression that we will use to create a custom crown for you.
The digital impression is used by the mill as it carves out your crown from a small block of ceramic material.
Crowns and bridges created with CEREC technology are just as durable as those created in a dental lab and eliminate the need to return for a second visit weeks later. They also match the shade of your other teeth, so your new crown will fit beautifully with the rest of your smile.
Uses of CEREC in Dental Treatments
CEREC is extremely versatile, eases the dentist’s work considerably, and decreases the waiting time for the patient. The main uses include:
With CEREC, you’ll love your new smile, and you won’t have to worry about multiple appointments. We know you have a busy life, so we provide this state-of-the-art option to streamline the process with the same great results.
