What Are Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are custom-designed shells that are applied to the surface of one or many teeth. They are made of a porcelain material that’s incredibly durable, while also looking natural. You can select the shade of veneers you want to ensure you get the pearly whites you have always wanted.
Along with covering up stains and discoloration, you can utilize veneers to cover worn enamel and uneven tooth alignment or spacing. Veneers are ideal for concealing many minor to moderate cosmetic issues with your teeth.
Are Veneers Permanent?
It’s essential to know that veneers aren’t a removable solution. You can’t take the shells on and off your teeth. Instead, they are permanently bonded to your natural teeth. Because your natural teeth need to be reshaped and filed in order to correctly adhere to the veneers, you can’t just remove them whenever you want.
Instead, you’ll need to have veneers replaced if they wear out. For most people, veneers last about 10–15 years. The better you take care of your veneers, the longer they will last.
The Porcelain Veneer Process
Porcelain veneers require more than one visit to the dentist. Usually, you’ll need to see Dr. Adamson three times.
1st Visit
The first visit includes a consultation where she plans your veneers and helps you determine if the treatment is right for you.
2nd Visit
The second visit is when she prepares your teeth for veneers. Prepping your teeth involves buffing the teeth and removing a bit of your enamel. This is because the veneer will add extra thickness to the tooth. She will also take impressions of your mouth which are used to create your custom veneers.
The impressions are sent to a lab where they will make custom porcelain veneers. You may wear temporary veneers until your new veneers have been made.

3rd Visit
During the final visit, your custom-made porcelain veneer is bonded to your teeth using a special dental cement. You can enjoy your new smile with little to no recovery time after this appointment!
Advantages of Veneers
While every cosmetic treatment can improve your smile, some people prefer veneers for the job because they offer the following benefits:
- They Replace the Need for Multiple Treatments: While veneers do take a few visits to complete, you won’t have to undergo many other procedures to get a uniform, bright smile. Veneers can replace many rounds of teeth whitening, dental crowns, and more.
- They Last for Many Years: While veneers eventually need to be replaced, they do last for many years. If you treat them carefully and maintain good habits, they can last up to 15 years.
- They Create Uniform Smiles: The biggest reason to consider veneers is that they make you smile more beautiful! You can cover up lots of things you don’t like about your teeth, giving you a smile you love.
