COMFORTABLE, FAST
LASER GUM SURGERY
Gum disease is a serious dental health problem that can lead to severe tooth and bone loss if left untreated. In the past, gum disease surgery was rather uncomfortable, but it doesn’t have to be anymore.
Laser gum surgery to treat periodontal disease is much more comfortable than traditional gum surgery options. With laser gum surgery, you can keep your gum disease from getting worse and retain your current teeth. What Is Laser Gum Surgery?
Laser gum surgery, sometimes known as laser gum therapy, is a treatment that works in connection with scaling and root planing to treat gum disease.
During the treatment, a dentist uses a specialized laser to access and take out inflamed and infected gum tissue around a tooth root. During laser gum surgery, Dr. Adamson will use a small laser that uses light to get rid of the tissue in the gum disease pocket.
After removing the damaged tissue, she will then use an ultrasonic cleaning tool to remove tartar with sound waves. Then, she will use the laser again to deep clean the rest of the pocket and sterilize the area.
While the process still takes around 1–2 hours, it’s much faster and less uncomfortable than other gum disease surgery treatments. You may need to come in for more than one appointment to clean your entire mouth.
Does laser dentistry hurt?
One big benefit of laser treatments instead of traditional scaling and planing is how much more comfortable laser dentistry is. Lasers treat the gumline so quickly that you will feel little to no pain during the procedure.
The Benefits of Laser Gum Surgery
The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) states there are multiple benefits to utilizing laser gum surgery for treating periodontal disease. A few of the benefits of laser gum surgery include:
The use of laser gum surgery allows for improved treatment of gum disease without further irritation—it’s a relief for those in need of gum disease treatment.

Other Dental Laser Treatments
Laser gum surgery is used to treat gum disease, but there are other laser dentistry treatments that can address cosmetic issues with your smile.
For example, laser gum treatments are a great cosmetic dentistry option, as they can be used to reshape the gums if you want to change the appearance of a gummy smile. The process involves using a specialized laser to contour the gums and remove excess tissue.
LANAP
LANAP is a specialized laser meant just for treating gum disease. Instead of assisting with gum surgery, it can assist with disinfection and the removal of plaque. It is a popular replacement for scaling and root planing. This treatment is one of the only kinds of gum treatments that can help the gums reattach after surgery.
If you are looking for gum treatment, you can ask your dentist if they offer LANAP or laser therapy to treat your gums.
LAPIP
LAPIP is similar to LANAP, in that it helps your gums regenerate. Lasers are pretty unique in their ability to help your cells multiply quickly. LAPIP works to regenerate gums around an implant though, stabilizing the implant and helping the area heal before it is restored with a crown.
Diode Lasers for TMD
Lasers can reduce inflammation and help your joints relax, which is why they are so amazing for TMJ pain. This laser is a non-surgical laser that a dentist can use around your jaw to decrease pain. Several short sessions with the laser can be helpful as a way to lessen chronic pain.
